LISC Holds Successful Spanish Language Training for Child Care Providers

(Providence, RI)-- On Saturday, November 15, LISC's Rhode Island Child Care Facilities Fund (RICCFF) and Ready to Learn Providence partnered to present Rhode Island LISC's first ever Spanish language training for home-based child care providers. 78 providers from across the state participated in the workshop.
Ready to Learn -- a highly regarded education and child care partner in LISC's Building Sustainable Communities strategy -- offers literacy education courses for college credit to family child care providers in Olneyville and South Providence.
Saturday's workshop covered health and safety, and strategies for improving the learning environment. Participants received a Spanish language version of LISC's Family Child Care Resource Guide which provides concrete advice on issues important to family child care providers; including: home purchase, repair, lead remediation and weatherization; women and minority business development; and energy conservation.
Laura Mason Zeisler, a bi-lingual early childhood educator facilitated the workshop with assistance from LISC staff Maria Canton and Nati Taveras and five Ready to Learn AmeriCorps members.
