LISC invests in better child care for Rhode Island's children

$128,000 in new grants from the Rhode Island Child Care Facilities Fund will support improvements to child care facilities in Providence, Woonsocket and East Providence

Providence, RI - The Rhode Island LISC board approved grant support for three separate projects to improve child care facilities in Rhode Island:

The Hope Street Family Center provides affordable childcare for working families in Woonsocket.

East Providence - $11,000 Pre-Development Grant
East Bay Coalition for the Homeless (EBCH) and East Bay Head Start are collaborating to renovate a vacant convent into housing and space for childcare.  On the first floor, East Bay Head Start will operate two classrooms for 40 children. On the second floor, EBCH will manage six apartments for formerly homeless families.

Woonsocket - $7,000 Capacity Building Grant
This grant will support the Hope Street Family Center in Woonsocket (more info) which provides high-quality affordable childcare services for 110 children. The Center is run by Connecting for Children and Families - a key LISC partner.

Providence - $10,000 Grant and $100,000 Recoverable Grant
The Bright Futures Early Learning Center at the new Meeting Street School in South Providence will use these funds to clean-up a polluted brownfields site and replace it with a 1.25 acre playground fully equipped to serve children with a wide range of disabilties.
