LISC hosts coffee hour with Senator Jack Reed

Providence, RI (9/03/08) - Rhode Island Housing Director Richard Godfrey, Citizens Bank Vice President and RI LISC Chair Jeanne Cola, and Susan Baxter of the Housing Resources Commission joined over forty other community, business and nonprofit leaders gathered at Rhode Island LISC to meet Senator Reed and thank him for his leadership on federal housing legislation.
As reported by the New York Times, Senator Reed has been a tireless advocate for improved federal housing legislation. His efforts were instrumental in securing passage of the recent Housing and Economic Recovery Act, which will make available nearly $4 billion in emergency Community Development Block Grants for the acquisition and rehabilitation of foreclosed and abandoned homes.
Senator Reed spoke of his longstanding commitment to forging effective federal policies that help address pressing needs on the community level. And he offered his insights into upcoming Presidential contest between two of his fellow Senators.
Rhode Island LISC hosted the gathering to give community development advocates the opportunity to meet with Senator Reed, hear his views and thank him for his leadership.
