Mumford Manor - Newport, RI

The historic Mumford School, built in 1909, to serve the children of Newport, today stands newly-refurbished as home to 34 seniors.  It was originally converted to senior housing in 1983 by Church Community Housing Corporation, with HUD funding and assistance from the City of Newport.

The 2007 rehabilitation involved restoration of the original school house windows, new kitchens and bathrooms throughout, a new roof, re-pointing the brick exterior, extensive landscaping and upgrading the heating, electric and fire protection systems.

The facility also now boasts a new solar photo voltaic electrical generating system that is expected to provide 30% of the building's electrical needs.  (You can view online monitoring of the system's electrical output here.)
